Ways To Get Involved This Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15th to October 15th officially marks the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Once started in 1989 as a significant date to multiple Latin American countries’ independence days, this month celebrates Hispanic culture, arts and history. Heritage Month encourages our country to learn about our Hispanic community, as well as the contributions and achievements of Latinx people.

Here are some organizations to get involved with this Hispanic Heritage Month:

Latino Economic Development Center

LEDC is a community of Latnix entrepreneurs and business people within the Twin Cities area. This organization provides community members with support through helping create more economic opportunities and developing the next generation of Latinx leaders.

COPAL

COPAL, otherwise known as Communities Organizing Latino Power and Action, was started in January 2018. This organization’s mission is to help promote racial, gender, social and economic justice in Latinx communities. Their overall goal is to create an equitable world for everyone.

CLUES

Chicanos Latinos Unidos en Servicio (CLUES) is an organization whose mission is to economically and socially help Latinx communities live better lives. They serve a variety of community members from new immigrants to low-income families to individuals. CLUES’ vision is to help others grow in strength and unity to lead healthy and happy lives.

La Oportunidad

This organization was first founded in 1987 and was created to create a community of peace and strength. Their main goal is to help Latinx community members close the achievement gap by becoming successful in school, work and financially. La Oportunidad hopes to nourish and raise up the community by ending poverty and violence.

Esperanza United (formerly Casa de Esperanza)

Esperanza United is an organization that is working to end gender-based violence in Latinx communities. In 1982, EU was founded as an emergency shelter in St. Paul for women and children experiencing violence in their families. The organization offers support, training and education on domestic abuse in Latinx communities.

We encourage our organization partners and volunteers to further educate themselves and dive into the rich culture and history of the Latinx community throughout this celebratory month. During this time, we also encourage friends of our communities to volunteer and support these organizations with their important work in the Latinx communities.
