No Sew Fleece Tied Blankets

We all know how cold Minnesota winters can get! Create a cute, warm blanket for someone in our community who needs a little extra warmth and emotional support through this unprecedented time.

Supplies required:

  • 2 yards of patterned fleece (available at Joanns’s, Walmart, or Amazon)

  • 2 yards of solid colored fleece (available at Joanns’s, Walmart, or Amazon)

  • fabric or sharp pair of scissors

  • ruler (optional)

  • masking tape (optional)

Follow these easy steps below (or search for a YouTube tutorial):

Step 1: line up both pieces of fleece on top of each other with the more vibrantly colored sides facing outward.

Step 2: Remove any white selvage first, and then with the fabric lined up, trim off any ends as necessary to make them the same size.

Step 3: Cut out a square about 3-4 inches (-the length of the scissor blade) from each corner. This will prevent the bunching of the material in the corners and help make tying easier.

Step 4: Repeat step 3 on each corner, so there is a square cut from all 4 corners of the fabric.

Step 5: Next, cut out slits - almost like a fringe - about 3 inches deep (-the length of the scissor blade) all the way around the fabric. Just make sure you cut deep enough so that you can tie the pieces together. Then repeat every 1 inch or approximately the width of your thumb. **Make sure to cut the fringe through both pieces of fabric while they are layered together. This way, you have the same number of fringes all the way around**

Step 6: Tie the matching top and bottom fringes together into double knots (helps them to stay together after washing).

These warm and cozy blankets are amazing! Polar fleece is extremely durable and warm, making it ideal for people who need an extra layer of warmth this winter.

Blankets not only provide physical warmth for people, but they also provide emotional comfort during difficult times. The bright and fun patterns allow people to choose a pattern that they like best.
