Volunteering Changes Everything
April marks Global Volunteer Month, a time to celebrate volunteers and inspire people to take action. And here in Minnesota, that action is already everywhere.
It shows up in neighbors supporting one another in ways both big and small. It’s in food pantries created inside child care centers, rides given to those who need them, and donations made to nonprofits and grassroots fundraisers. It’s in crowds of tens of thousands exercising their civic rights. It’s in the choice to support small businesses and keep dreams alive.
Everywhere you look, people are choosing to care. That is why a new message from Points of Light feels so timely: Volunteering Changes Everything.
Because it does.
It changes how we see ourselves, not just as individuals but as people who can make a difference. It changes how we connect with our neighbors and our communities. It can shape the future of a young person, shift the course of a difficult moment, and strengthen the health of our communities and environment.
Volunteering is not just something extra. It is essential.
Volunteers are often behind the scenes, but they are the force that keeps our communities vibrant and strong. This Global Volunteer Month, take time to find your own way to take action.
And also take a moment to reflect. Think about a time when someone showed up for you. It could be something big or something small, but it mattered. Write it down. Share it on social media. Send a thank-you note if you can. When we name these moments, we do more than remember them. We help inspire them in others.
And that is how volunteering changes everything.
