| First Mondays @ Sibley Bike Depot |
Agency: HandsOn Twin Cities
Description:

Volunteers as young at 16 are welcome without adult supervision. To register a volunteer under 18, call 612-379-4900. All volunteers under 18 must bring a youth waiver signed by a parent/guardian.
Know what you’re doing with a bike in the stand? Got a few spare hours each month? We could really use your help! The lack of affordable transportation options features as a recurring if often overlooked barrier to employment and housing in the Twin Cities, and the First Mondays project seeks to address this oversight, by working to make roadworthy bicycles available to low-income adults in need of them, as means to help create stronger communities and a more sustainable environment. The first Monday of each month, volunteers are needed to help repair bikes for donation to community members who lack reliable transportation options, as well as for other exciting programs, such as an innovative new Bike Library program the Sibley Bike Depot is developing. Volunteers interested in participating will be asked to help with a range of common maintenance tasks, from fixing flats and truing wheels to adjusting brakes and drivetrains, so experience with bicycle repair will be essential to making the project a success. (Persons less familiar with the craft are encouraged to undertake the Bike Depot's free 4-week Basic Bike Maintenance course before participating. See www.sibleybikedepot.org for schedule.) Do a solid favor for your community – come once to check it out, or make this a regular thing to do! Join us on the first Monday of each month, 5 – 8 PM.
