Agency: Macalester-Groveland Living at Home/Block Nurse Program
Description:
Volunteers help neighborhood seniors maintain their independence through friendly visits and by assisting with transportation, errands, household tasks and/or small repairs and/or yard work.
Responsbilities:
*Participation in required orientation and in-service training.
*Contact assigned client(s) regularly to arrange a convenient schedule.
*Perform/assist with tasks such as transportation, errands, cleaning, laundry, cooking, helping to pay bills, writing letters, yard maintenance, etc.
*Refer client(s) as appropriate to Macalester-Groveland Seniors staff for other needed health or social services.
*Consult as needed with Macalester-Groveland Seniors Volunteer Coordinator.
*Maintain client confidentiality.
*Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Macalester-Groveland Seniors.
*Report volunteer hours as requested.
Qualifications:
*Interest in working with elderly neighbors.
*Must be at least 18 years of age.
*Ability to seek guidance when in doubt.
*Successful completion of required orientation and pre-service training, including information on aging, communication, listening and grief.
*Good listening skills.
*Caring, compassionate and patient.
*Ability to perform basic household and/or yard maintenance tasks.
