Something
for Everyone!

Volunteering
isn't just for bipeds!
Recap:
The 2nd Annual
Hands On Twin Cities
Volunteer Expo
This past
Saturday, February 10th, we teamed up with
Mall of America, 60
event volunteers, and 111 Twin Cities area
nonprofits to bring America's Largest
Volunteer Fair into America's Largest
Shopping Mall.
It all
started early - so early that "bright"
didn't even apply! Hands On Twin
Cities staff and personnel from
MOA arrived at 7am to begin set-up. We
were worried that we'd be in a time crunch,
but 10 amazing and efficient volunteers from
Single Volunteers of the Twin Cities
helped us get everything ready in record
time.
We knew
that Saturdays at the Mall were busy
(especially during a Minnesota February),
but we were thrilled to meet so many
visitors who showed up specifically for our
Expo! 13 members of a local church
youth group arrived to plan out their
service projects for the year; a high school
4H club designed a scavenger hunt around the
different organizations at the Expo; and one
woman traveled all the way from Winnipeg to
see the action!
Speaking of action - this
year's Expo was even busier than last
year's. We had 3 on-site speed
volunteer activities:
In addition
to 10 live entertainment acts from
participating nonprofits on the main stage
(a new show every half-hour!):
To top it off, at this year's
Expo we gave out our first-ever Be The
Change awards to volunteers in 4
different service areas who have gone above and
beyond the call of duty for their organizations
and their communities:
Many thanks to all of
our volunteers, our affiliates, our
partners, REM Video & Event Co., our sponsors, and the visitors who
came to enjoy the product of all our hard
work! We'll see you next year!

After their 10:30
show, the PACER center puppets stuck around to
answer fans' questions.

volunteers taking a much-needed break.

We're so excited
in this picture, you'd never guess it was taken
at 7 am on a Saturday!

bird nests out of toilet paper.

Visitors gather at
Rebuilding Together, who were recognized by a panel
of event volunteers for having the best booth
display. A display so good that we couldn't
get a direct picture of it through the crowd!

The Creative
Dance Team from Neighborhood House attracted
quite a crowd, as well.
