This
summer, a hardworking team of volunteers
gathered weekly to complete four service
projects around the Twin Cities, offering youth
a chance to learn about different issues, build
teamwork, and most of all, have fun!
Starting
TeamWorks off at the Bakken Museum
Our kickoff project took place at the Bakken
Museum in Minneapolis, where our team helped
make kits for youth that attend the Bakken’s
summer camp. We also had a chance to check out
some of the great exhibits in the museum! Our
second project took us to a home in southeast
Minneapolis, where we worked in the hot sun,
helping a senior with gardening, mowing,
planting, and other chores through Handyworks, a
program of the Greater Minneapolis Council of
Churches. At our third project, our volunteers
worked hard at the Goodwill Outlet in St. Paul,
learning about Goodwill’s mission and making
sure the clothing supply at the outlet never got
low! Our final project was at Lake Como, where
we planted and weeded along the shoreline,
working with St. Paul Parks and Rec.
We can’t
wait until summer 2009 for the next Youth
TeamWorks! If you are interested in
participating or would like more information,
please email Laura Newby at
laura@handsontwincities.org. Hope to see you
next summer!
