Getting the Class of 2012
Engaged in Our Community!
Freshmen beginning classes
for the fall semester 2008 at the University of
Minnesota's Twin Cities Campus will be part of a
new program called Welcome Week, a six-day
student experience required of all
degree-seeking freshman. Students who have
confirmed their attendance will arrive on
Wednesday, August 27 – one week before the first
day of fall semester.
One goal
of Welcome Week is to have the entire incoming
class take part in community service projects.
The Orientation & First-Year Programs office is
currently looking for area non-profit and
community organizations that would be willing to
host a service project for some of the over
5,000 new students at the U. Our goal is to
have the entire incoming class participate in
some form of community service on Sunday, August
31st. Transportation too and from projects will
be provided as needed. We realize that staffing
a project on a Sunday is difficult for some
organizations, so we challenge you to propose a
project benefiting your organization and those
you help that can be done on campus.
If your
organization is interested in possibly hosting a
service project, large or small, or would just
like to discuss the possibility, please contact
James Liberman at ofyp@umn.edu or by phone at
(612) 624-1979. For more information regarding
Welcome Week please go to
