Volunteer Spotlight
|
This month's Volunteer Spotlight recognizes Natalie C. who contributes her time at the Minnesota Children's Museum.
Natalie started as a member of Minnesota Children's Museum Summer Squad
Youth Program, where she worked with a team of high school-aged
volunteers to engage museum visitors in a variety of activities. Recently she has been accepted as a Youth Leader for the
current school year youth program.
Natalie was nominated due to her great enthusiasm for
interacting with people and is always willing to help engage each
volunteer. MCM staff were quick to notice her dedication to service,
outgoing nature and enthusiasm and were excited that she could put so
much energy into making the museum a better place.

MLK Day Recap
|
For MLK Day 2009 HandsOn Twin Cities partnered with
Minneapolis Community Technical College (MCTC) and General Mills to host two
exciting days of service for the Twin Cities community.
On Saturday, January 17th,
as a new addition to MCTC's annual MLK Day festivities, HandsOn Twin Cities
organized four service opportunities for students and staff. More than 50
volunteers made sandwiches at Simpson Housing Services, sorted donated items at
Arc Value Village Thrift Store, organized and cleaned at People Serving
People and cut fabric for
receiving blankets, bibs, burp cloths and sheets.
On Monday, January 19th, HandsOn once
again partnered with General Mills to coordinate volunteer opportunities at
various General Mills locations. More than 100 volunteers were able to
participate just by taking a ½ hour out of their work day.
Volunteers cut fabric to make enough sheets for two months
worth of Bundles of Love baby bundles, in addition to providing a stack of
quilt blocks. They completed 25 birthday cards for the women, men and children
living in transitional housing through Resource, Inc, decorated more than 60
bags for Meals On Wheels clients through the Roseville Area Senior Program and made 300
sandwiches and 100 bag lunches for Simpson Housing Services.
In total, volunteers
contributed 400 hours of service in honor of MLK Day!
