    Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is next Monday, January 19, and President Elect Obama has called for everyone to make it a National Day of Service. There are lots of ways to get involved on MLK Day, at home and in your community. Here are a few of the ideas!

    • Check with your local YMCA, community center, or library, to see what sort of MLK Day festivities they are hosting, and how volunteer can assist.
    • Visit with an elderly friend or neighbor, or volunteer at a senior care facility. Ask about the person's experience during the civil rights movement, and to share their memories of Dr. King.
    • Read more about the history and purpose of MLK Day, and find more volunteer opportunities on the national MLK Day website.

    Affiliate Spotlight: Caring For All

This month we'd like to highlight a new HandsOn Twin Cities affiliate, Caring For All. This organization is based out of the Twin Cities with an additional branch in Monrovia, Liberia.

Caring For All provides mentors for teenagers, counseling and educating them on the real life issues such as, staying out of trouble with the law, providing early childhood learning programs for kids and also helps new Liberia refugee/immigrant families get acquainted to the new customs in the USA.
