| Martin Luther King Jr. Day |
 |
|
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is next Monday, January 19,
and
President Elect Obama has called for everyone to
make it a National Day of Service. There are lots of
ways to get involved on MLK Day, at home and in
your community. Here are a few of the ideas!
- Check with your local YMCA, community center, or
library, to see what sort of MLK Day festivities they are
hosting, and how volunteer can assist.
- Visit with an elderly friend or neighbor, or volunteer
at a senior care facility. Ask
about the person's experience during the civil rights
movement, and to share their memories of Dr.
King.
- Read more about the history and purpose of MLK
Day, and find more volunteer opportunities on the
national MLK Day
website.
