Thanksgiving is over and we're fast approaching the even more busy holiday season. This
year many organizations are
anticipating being overwhelmed by requests for help,
as more and more people find themselves in a time of
need. If you're interested in volunteering search our
database for the
right opportunity.
Hands On Twin Cities wants to take a moment to
thank our outstanding intern Ashley Jepma. Her
internship is over sadly, but we can't wait to see what
she accomplishes from here! She has been incredibly
helpful to
everyone here and made a huge difference in
everything she did for us.
Thank you Ashley!

| Martin Luther King Jr. Day |
 |
|
Holiday volunteering doesn't end with December.
Another great day to volunteer is January 19th, Martin
Luther King Junior Day. Help turn a day off into a "day
on" of service.
We're working with corporate volunteers
that day, and you can get involved as well. Cheerful Givers is always looking
for people to drop off decorated bags filled with small
gifts that end up in the hands of less fortunate kids on
their birthday.
The Minnesota Children's Museum is also hosting a
day of events at their location and could use volunteers
in the morning. For more information on this event
email Jay at jhaapala@mcm.org.

| Affiliate Spotlight: Global Health Ministries |
 |
|
This month's Affiliate Spotlight is Global Health
Ministries, who work to promote healthy living
conditions in other countries. They achieve this by
working with Lutheran churches around the globe to
provide funding for health care projects and
scholarships as well as gathering and shipping useful
donated health care equipment and supplies to where
they're needed.
Hands On Twin Cities has partnered with Global
health Ministries in one of our Impact Now
projects to sort medical supplies once a
month at their Fridley warehouse. Children as young
as 12 are welcome with an adult. For more information
contact Laura at 612-379-4900 x 19.

Vail Place
would like to thank one of their volunteers, Marc
F. Marc began volunteering at
Vail Place in early 2007 after being impressed with
how great their volunteers were when he needed
assistance after a live treatment.
Vail Place has given Marc their Chriss Renier Award of
Excellence in the past, and the staff wanted to take this
opportunity to thank him again for everything he's done
for them. Jan Mitchell wanted Marc to know he was
greatly appreciated and will be missed. Unfortunately
Marc has to take a break from volunteering as he's
scheduled for another surgery soon.

Project Homeless Connect |
|
|
|
Hands On Twin Cities would like to remind everyone
that on
Monday, December 12th there is a great service
available to
anyone who is homeless or near homelessness. This
will
be the 6th annual Project Homeless Connect, put on
by the
Minneapolis and Hennepin County's Office to End
Homelessness, and is based on a nationally
implemented
model to provide a one-stop event for people in need.
This event is hosted twice a year at the Minneapolis
Convention Center. Last April, 1300 volunteers
helped almost 3000 individuals find solutions to their
daily
needs. Visitors can find
information on housing, employment or obtaining state
IDs. They are also able to receive free haircuts, health
exams and dental work.
Hands On Twin Cities is proud to be working with
Project Homeless Connect to help identify ways to
improve the efficiency of this event. With the amount of
people seeking help increasing each year the
organizers of this event are always looking for more
volunteers and a better way to handle the flow of
people in need.
